This homestay is a part of Hum Sab Ek hain (We are One) initiative of SEWA. SEWA organizes poor, self-employed women workers in the informal economy towards two major goals of full employment and self-reliance in India.

My homestay is situated in Navapura Village on the outskirts of Mehsana District with plenty of greenery. It is a comfortable stay option for those who want to get away from the bustling city and explore the villages of Gujarat. Enjoy lip-smacking Gujarati cuisine served by us!

Our home is located in Navapura Village, at about 25km drive from the district headquarter of Mehsana.

The rooms are spacious, well ventilated with beds, chairs and a table in the room. There’s a TV in the house for your entertainment. The rooms have an attached toilet with running water. There is a verandah outside which can be used to sit out and relax. Our kitchen has a small refrigerator where you can store your food. There are basic utensils & supplies for you to make your tea/coffee.

Indulge yourself in the Gujarati cuisine served to you for breakfast. There is a swing in the house which gives the house a very Gujarati look and feel.

In the neighbourhood, women are engaged in animal husbandry. You can also visit the dairy cooperative in our village to interact with them. Mornings will find you fresh and full of energy in our home.

There is a village temple and a regular group of devotees who will raise your spirits with their hymns. The communities in our village celebrate all the local festivals enthusiastically. So, if you’re here during a festival time, rest assured you’ll have a wonderful time.

You can also visit the famous sun temple at Modhera, which is a 45 km drive from our village. You can visit the bird sanctuary at Thol lake which is about 30 kms from our village. Here you can see some unique species of migratory birds. The eco tourism centre set-up by SEWA members on a government wasteland is also close by. You can take strolls in the local farms, buy local organic vegetables, have a local traditional meal and talk to the women about how they set-up this one of its kind tree growers cooperative.
You can also visit the community radio centre set-up by SEWA women. You can see the women engaged in editing and recording of community radio programmes.

I have been a proud member of SEWA (Self Employed Women’s Association) for the past 17 years. SEWA organizes self-employed women workers across 13 Indian States in the informal economy towards two major goals of full employment and self-reliance in India.

I studied up to seventh grade and used to work as an agricultural worker before getting married. My life could have been just another story of a rural woman before I joined SEWA and started taking part in community awareness campaigns and activities. I gained a lot of self belief and confidence through activities of SEWA.

Students from various parts of the country like Assam and Uttaranchal have stayed with me and family when they interned with SEWA. They loved chatting with my mother-in-law and she loved that experience. Now, we're looking forward to hosting more guests from across the world.

Come stay with us and we can exchange interesting stories and can also showcase the work we’re doing; the ecotourism center, the radio station and involve you in our daily activities.
