We are a British and Zimbabwean husband and wife team. I am James Rice a professional chef worked in London as head chef at Langhans, Shepherds and Quinta de Largo in the Algarve. My wife Mary Kanokanga-Rice was an IT teacher in the UK. We bought the house and renovated it over the years and now we have a successful guesthouse and restaurant which has been open for 19years.

Apart from running Casa Joya with is 20km from the town of Vélez-Rubio in Almería we also have a two bedroom apartment in Mojacar, Almeria just 5 minutes walk to the beach, shops and restaurants

Our passion is healthy eating, travelling and immense ourselves in local cultures and cuisine, wine, Mary is into running, yoga and I love walking.
