A Touch of Zen offers a rare opportunity to spend a night in an old Japanese-style home built for a military officer nearly a century ago, recently renovated and turned into a guest house. The guest wing consists of the 4-person Cabin Bunk Room, the Tatami room, which can sleep up to 3, and the Writer's room, which has an extra wide single bed that can accommodate 2 if you don't mind being cuddly. Includes access to a kitchen and common room.

This neighborhood was once a housing compound for high ranking Japanese military officers, and many of the homes date from that period and share a similar old world charm. We are walking distance from some of the best local restaurants in Kaohsiung, as well as picturesque alleys that still retain the feel of what Taiwan was like 40-50 years ago. Also nearby is the Lotus Pond, with its picturesque Dragon and Tiger Pavilions and the Confucious Temple. Just around the corner from us is the 886 Military Villages Museum, and just a few blocks beyond that is the Navy Golf course (one of Taiwan's oldest and most admired golf courses) and the ROC Naval History Museum. Other Kaohsiung sights are just a bus ride away.

I am a Taiwan-born American, I like shooting things (with a camera) and writing various types of fiction. I make my living as a videographer flying all over Asia shooting for different clients. Even after nearly 20 years of traveling frequently for work I still love to travel, and I share that love with all who visit. We (hosts Carl and Wendy) like to make ourselves available to chat with guests when our schedules allow. We are somewhat busy people, but we live on the property and each day we should have some downtime at home that we are happy to spend with guests. We like to screen old movies on the giant projection wall in the living room in the main house, and Carl mixes a mean cocktail and makes some fine home-made ice cream.
