They distill Gin, Whiskey and Vodka, have free parking, amazing hand crafted gates, great cafe with outdoor seating in the courtyard and garden, cosy indoor seating, very good toilets, Lamas (or they may be Alpacas!), brewery tour and gift shop.

A great place to eat and drink at the end of your walk round the lake ...or half way round if you've park up at Gatesgarth Farm at the far end of the lake, rather than parking at Buttermere village.
To call it a 'Tea Room' does it a disservice. They do very tasty breakfasts, light lunches, afternoon teas, amazing freshly made pies and cakes and homemade ice cream which is actually made in the room behind the cafe, from milk provided by the cows grazing in the fields around you! The service is warm and friendly as is the cafe, which is housed in a converted barn.
From the 'hamlet / pubs' end of Buttermere, take the left fork in the road up the steep hill for about 100 yards. Turn right into the farm yard. Syke's Farm Tea Room is on your right.
From Gatesgarth Farm end of the lake if you've been walking anti-clockwise around the lake, it's about half way round the lake. After the scramble up the rocks part of the walk, the path crosses a couple of fields then heads through the yard of a working farm. Go through the farm gates, closing them behind you, and walk on down to the Syke's Farm Tea Room farm yard. The tea room is on your left.

Cockermouth has the largest selection of independent Georgian fronted shops and cafes in a town of its size. Good food in cafes, pubs and hotels. Interesting shops. Wordsworth's House. Jennings Brewery. Good parking. Walk down one of the side lanes off the Main Street to get to the lovely amble along the River Derwent. Well worth a visit.
