On The Rocks

Escape Virgin Gorda’s pristine white-sand beaches, and scenic vistas of Sir Francis Drake Channel at this pavilion-style villa in the British Virgin Islands. Wander the lush 1.5-acre property and lose yourself amongst mature palms, giant boulders, and thick tropical greenery. Then, walk 2 minutes down to Little Trunk Bay, one of Gorda’s most breathtaking beaches. Built within a private and shady alcove, the On The Rocks estate is the perfect place to embrace a stress-free way of life. Follow the coral-stone pathway around the terrace, where you’ll notice several seating options for the whole group, as well as smaller settings for more intimate moments. French doors lead the way inside, where the common areas and bedrooms are divided between 3 semi-separate pavilions. Start your day with a refreshing swim in the pool or try out snorkeling down at the beach. Then, head into Spanish Town to pick up some fresh fish for a lunchtime barbecue. After a little grilling, dine at the cliffside alfresco set and watch the luxury yachts navigate the channel. Sneak away for a quick nap in the hammock before dinner, then rejoin the group for an exciting evening. Make sure to pack your camera and hiking boots because the view from Gorda’s peak is not to be missed. 11 kilometers from home, you’ll find a network of hiking trails that wind their way through lush jungle and scenic lookouts at Gorda Peak National Park. Sunsets glow over the ocean and neighboring St. Thomas rises from the sea—as seen from the patio of this Mediterranean-inspired villa on St. John. It’s part of a clutch of villas set above Cruz Bay like an Italian hilltop village, and shares a clubhouse, fitness center, and pool with them. Drive or take a taxi down to more dining and shopping choices in central Cruz Bay. Stone gates at the entrance give the feeling of sweeping up to a European country estate, but once you reach the house, the views are all Caribbean. Watch sailboats in the harbor below from a lounger by the private swimming pool—or better yet, from a float in the pool. As the sun sinks lower, heat up the barbecue for dinner at the alfresco table. Even the great room offers a place to bask in the sun, thanks to a wall of windows that dapples the sitting area with light. A short set of stairs separates the living room from a dining area for 6 brightened by seashell art and a fully equipped kitchen with a breakfast bar. The villa is a short walk from the shared fitness center, pool, and clubhouse at The Hills, so it’s easy to fit in a workout or stop for a glass of wine at the clubhouse bistro.
