Take the ferry to Vashon Island and see Tacoma from a different perspective. Vashon is home to many artists and is a great place to spend the day. Another ferry from a terminal at the north end of the island will take you to Seattle, so you can make a full loop.

Second largest city park in the US. If you can't make it to Mt Rainier, take the five mile drive in this local park and get a taste of old growth forest. Also rocky beach, zoo, rose garden, etc.

If you are coming from the South come on the island here and head north once you are off the ferry.
