One of the older training facilities for the US military, so much cool history here. Pull off just past nova guides and you'll see a little history here. During the summer you can drive up the dirt road even in a sedan and check out some of the signs on the sides of the road to see some of the amazing history to this location only two minutes away by car.

Back in the 40's, the military found out about the Finnish Winter War, and how the Finnish rocked the mountain on skis. They were like "Heck yeah, look at them killin' it on the mountain, out maneuvering their enemies. We should do that too". And so Camp Hale was created. The camp was built outside of Leadville due to a setting of a flat valley bottom, surrounded by steep hillsides suitable for training in skiing, rock climbing and cold weather survival skills. Believe it or not, but Camp Hale also had a significant part in the creation of Colorado's ski industry... Wanna find out how? Go check it out!

Visit the site of the famous 10th mountain division. These brave men not only won an important battle in the Apennines, but also paved the way for skiing as we know it today.

Great place to see WWII History. See where the 10th Mountain Division trained, just miles outside of Vail!
