Hi as a host of this property , I welcome guests from all over the world .

If you love reading the story this story is for you

In a rural village of Nepal there was a farmer family. The parents had a very hard time making enough just to feed their children, and let’s not talk about paying school tuition for a proper education and other needs of the children. In this poor family there was a boy who wanted to study and become an engineer or a doctor. This boy worked hard in school and everyone remarked on how smart he was, but then there came a very bad day when the boy was in 9th grade. His poor parents could not pay the fee of the school, and as a result he was not allowed to attend the final exam. In not being able to prove what he had learned in the final exam, he lost all of his years of work and study. He decided then that no other child should have to suffer like he was suffering, and became determined to open a unique school – a Free School – in his village.
Somehow, though struggling with poverty, he passed the SLC, and the time came for him to take a bold step. He wanted to go to University for higher education, but his family just could not afford this. One day, without informing anyone because he was afraid that if he told his parents he would not be allowed to go, he took a night bus to Kathmandu. He knew his parents would be afraid for their son in an unknown city where they knew no one, and that they could not afford to send him any money, but he had to go.
This Child was so naughty that he took the bus knowing that he did not have money in his pocket to pay the bus fare. Mentally, he readied himself to be thrown away by the bus conductor in the middle of nowhere, but thanks to his luck he arrived at Kalanki in the early morning of winter of Paush. Coming from his warmer southern village, he was shivering with the cold of the Kathmandu city winter, and he was little warmed by the kick of the angry bus conductor. What he could do? However, he had known that he would have to suffer like this, and had mentally prepared himself to face it. His Heart was able to explain his situation in such a way that, if he could have expressed it in words to the bus conductor, he would never have been insulted so much. The problem was in the boy’s education, for he could neither speak Nepali nor English. For the first time in his life he realized that his education, the whole 10 years up to the SLC, was not marketable!
Welcomed to his dream city by the heart-breaking bitter cold weather of an early winter morning, he now walked from Kalanki, not knowing where to go, but walking to walk somewhere. This is how his days in Kathmandu began. All that day he walked, searching for ways to get a roof over his head and some food on his plate, but the day ended with no good luck. He slept on the street with no food, and in this way was welcomed to his first night in Kathmandu. In the same way the days came and went, until one day he found a wonderful job as dish washer in a local hotel, where he was given some food in return of working a full day. He was so grateful this his first job! In this way he survived in Kathmandu. All day he washed dishes in the hotel, and at night would explore the city like a tourist, though without any money in hand, and with the personality of Khalasi chpal fyat fyat. He was also developing a marketable skill: little by little he could now speak Nepali.
Now he sought a job in a boarding school. He went dozen hundreds of schools, but was not even allowed to enter the main gate. The gate keepers thought he might be beggar coming to bother the school and would not let him to enter. But one day he told the gate keeper that he would work in the school without a salary, and this convinced the founder to speak with him. However, after observing the boy’s khalasi personality the founder said no to him, but the boy insisted that he give him just one chance to teach in the class and be observed, and the founder agreed. He impressed the founder with his teaching, and finally got his dream job of teaching in that school, though it was without pay. The days went on and one day he got a surprise from founder. He was given a salary of Nrs. 500 ($5 USD) a month, and this was golden news for him. Gradually another surprise came to him when the founder made him Principal of that school and his salary was raised 3000 Nrs. ($30 USD) a month. It was a big and wonderful surprise for him. The founder took him to the tailor for a suit and tie and new shoes, and it was the first time in his life he had done shopping like this.
Now he was the Principal, and he continued to learn every day. He now learned to make a nut of a tie and how to wear a coat, but he still could not speak English, though one of his duties as Principal was to maintain the compulsory English environment. To resolve this he came up with a clever idea. After the school was over he started going to Thamel, the Kathmandu tourist hub, to practice English with tourists. By doing this he learned not only English but also about Tourism, and learned that tourists liked rural villages of Nepal better than Kathmandu. But to learn these English skills he had to tolerate the stick by the tourist police, who thought that he was bothering the tourists.
Day by day he was learning more important life skills, and he also began working to complete a university education from TU in science faculty. He completed a M.Sc. and latter a B.Ed., while working full time as the Principal.
But this crazy boy again did something stupid and resigned from the post of Principal. It was during the height of the Maoist insurgency, when even poor people were leaving their villages and coming to live in Kathmandu to be safe. Whenever the exams came, as the Principal his role was to collect all the fees on time, and to expel the students that failed to pay the feee on time. Recalling his own childhood and being expelled before the exam just because his parents could not pay the fee, he just could not be happy with the job of Principal. Because of this he madly left this job. Once again he had no job and no money and was facing hard times. How was he to buy food and put a roof over his head? But some of the parents of his students, when they learned why he had left his job, came to him with a proposal. They offered him food and a room in return tor tutoring their children. He accepted and did this for several months.
Then one day another big surprise came when he was offered a permanent job at Nepal Telcome, the most attractive company of the Government of Nepal. Now his days were looking bright, and he started saving money from this job. He met many high profile people and through his work and entered into the Banking Industry. Soon he became the promotor share holder of Araniko Bikash Bank, and became involved in the tourism industry. He bought his own house at Gathaghar Bhaktapur, and a car. But he had not forgotten his dream of opening a unique school, a Free School, in his village so that no other child would suffer as he had. This dream inspired him to prepare everything to go back to his village. In this mean time, he now studied and completed double degree in rural development. Finally, he made the bold decision to go back home and build his dream school in his village. He sold his only house, he sold his only car, and he just jumped into his village with the vision of building a better community.
His name was Ram Patel. Today he is the founder of Sahakari Abhiyan Nepal (SAN) An Initiative of Jana Samudaya Bikash Yuwa Club , His vision is coming true, and you can see pictures of the first SAN Free School at the bottom of this page opening the links given below .
Nowadays, Ram is happy and satisfied that his dream has come true! He is happy even without his own house in Kathmandu, and without his car. He loves to walk on foot. When he started, he was alone but he has since been joined by passionate people from all 75 districts of Nepal, and countries around the world. SAN Nepal has leased enough space in Kathmandu to replicate SAN Model and to open a second Free SAN school in Kathmandu. The vision of Ram and the team at SAN has grown and is now to build a better Nepal by opening SAN Free Schools in all 75 districts and fostering grassroots community development. " Ram now says - " LETS UNITE & COOPERATE TOGETHER TO REBUILD A CLEANER , GREENER & MORE SUSTAINABLE NEPAL "
TODAY, HIS VISION HAS WIDENED AND THROUGH SAN NEPAL HE IS TAKING AN INITIATIVE " SAN FREE SCHOOL EVERY DISTRICT & ONE EQ MEMORIAL SAN FOREST EACH DISTRICT " !
