Seaside Garden Cottage is a sweet hideaway for writers, artists, or nature lovers. Everything is here for a simple coastal retreat or romantic sojourn: a small kitchenette, a warm shower, a cozy bed, and a lovely view. On clear nights, the sky is a sea of stars. The garden is welcoming and sunny.

You may hear waves crashing at Anchor Bay beach and also likely hear the sea lions barking in the distance on Fish Rock. No added cleaning fees but I do have a minimum stay of 4 nights.

The cottage faces South toward the Pacific Ocean. Yes, this is different! Normally if you're facing the ocean in California, you would be facing West. But the coast takes a hard left here, and you're actually facing due South. Great for winter sunshine. You have blue water views from the porch and the main windows too.

I don't add extra cleaning fees, because that's at least half of what you are already paying for. I clean very thoroughly for your stay. There is a four night minimum.

This area is known as the Banana Belt. My acre is almost always a very nice temperature (not too cold, not too hot) and very rarely windy even when north and south of here (and sometimes even just across the highway) is very windy or foggy. (Of course there will be fog sometimes in the summer and rain in the winter).

Inside it's all wood laminate floors, a table to eat for two, and a small couch that folds out for kids—or an adult who doesn't mind a simple fold-out single bed. (Let me know if you'll be using that so I can add the bedding—$25 a night for a third guest.)

The kitchenette has a gas stove and oven, small fridge with separate freezer, a toaster, microwave and small sink and dish area. I've included the basics and and half & half, tea, and coffee, too.

The bedroom with the queen-sized bed opens in from the rest of the cottage, with a good sized closet, a bathroom and access to the back deck. There's an empty dresser as well. So lots of places to unpack, and two suitcase stands too.

There's a lounger and a rocker on the back deck and a small end table. It's very private and you can still see the water too.

Anchor Bay is the beach right across the highway and is a great local beach. They do charge low entry fees, but it's such a lovely, sandy beach, it's worth the money. I give more specific information about Anchor Bay Beach and why you would want to go there in the guidebook. One reason I should mention now is that it's a great place to launch a kayak or other small boat. There are many other great beaches that have public access nearby. Schooner Beach and Cook's Beach are my two other favorites for water activities (I bodysurf, snorkel, and bodyboard; both beaches are good for surfing too). For kayaking I like to launch at Anchor Bay, or at the Gualala River, Moat Beach, or further north at the other large rivers; but the best is Van Damme Little River Beach for Sea Caves! There's a kayak tour that leaves from there if you are interested. It's really a wonderful experience.

Also nearby are some great hiking trails. Sea Ranch allows for hiking to the beaches and there are multiple pullouts where you can now park for free and hike a short way on the trails to the public beaches. Next there is Gualala Point Park which has some great loops to the beaches and connects up with the public Sea Ranch trails. North of Anchor Bay there is Pelican Bluffs, Bowling Ball Beach (my favorite for hiking and dog walking), the Stornetta lands (loads of trails) and as you go further north the parks and beaches keep coming. Not to mention some great small towns and good food too!

My dog Bella, my cat Miyu, and I all live on the same acre, separated by a simple barrier to keep overly friendly Bella from hounding you (half Husky + Lab). The main house is about 30 yards from the cottage and we have visual proximity. I will often be in the studio I just completed which is connected to the garage but out of sight. I'm generally around but often out and about at beaches and other activities. The cottage has a separate entrance, so we will not cross paths unless you want to say hi when I go to the studio or I am working in the main yard. I will be giving you a lot of privacy and you won't see me most of the time, but my house is close-by.

Both of my pets are friendly and sweet, but Bella the dog will stay on my side of the fence in the main yard.
