Great authentic Korean restaurant, where you can even do a Korean BBQ on your table. Tasty food at very fair prices, as is the norm on Capel St, my favourite area for food in Dublin. Other favourites of mine are Musashi for sushi, Klaw Poke for amazing seafood and poke bowls, Beerhouse with its laid-back vibe and big selection of craft beers, Camerino bakery and Hilan for super-authentic Chinese dishes.

Tiny restaurant offering its fresh Vietnamese street food to go or to be consumed at its few small tables. Enormous, tasty bowls of pho and other soups, lovely Vietnamese spring rolls, huge selection of bubble teas and other non-alcoholic drinks. You order at the counter. Service is brisk and usually not overly nice, but their simple food is authentic and delicious (as evidenced by its enthusiastic 90% Asian customer base). Nothing beats Dublin rain like their soups.

This tiny hidden bar/pub, packed to the rafters with in-the-know local punters, pool aficionados and music lovers, absolutely oozes character. A place unlike any other in Dublin. You have to ring a doorbell, then Shay - a local legend in his own right - opens the door and lets you in. He may look you up and down critically, but don't worry, all he's trying to weed out are unfriendly people. There most certainly isn't a dress code.Recommended to anyone except claustrophobic visitors.

Bull Island Nature Reserve is a great place to go for a walk. Bus 130 goes to the wooden bridge that connects the island to the mainland and offers fantastic views. Birdlife, dunes, beaches, a famous golf course, bathing shelters (yep, only in Dublin...), kitesurfers... definitely worth checking out. There are no permanent cafes or restaurants on the island, so you may want to pick up food/drink at one of the places just opposite the wooden bridge, on the land side of things. If you haven't had your fill of nature after Bull Island (hard as that may be to imagine), head on to St. Anne's Park.

Linear walk taking you from Bray to Greystones along a well-maintained, stunning coastal path. You can take the Dart commuter train to Bray and then back home from Greystones (quick and easy). I'd probably hop on at Connolly or Pearse Station, take the Dart to Bray and walk the 7km to Greystones, then go for lunch or dinner in Greystones. The walk is very popular with locals and visitors and requires a medium level of fitness, as there is some up and down. Bring a camera! http://visitwicklow.ie/activities/cliff-walk-bray-to-greystones/

Want to see one of Ireland's wackier sights? Check out Dublin's mummies in St. Michan's Church's crypt. Our tourguide would not have been out of place in a Hammer movie, he was spectacular. So famous you hardly need me to say anything, other than: It is indeed worth checking out, whether you are a stout fan or not. We and our guests enjoyed this place a lot more than the Jameson Distillery - but each to their own, of course! Located in Phoenix Park, Dublin Zoo is Ireland’s most popular family attraction, with more than one million visitors last year. It is one of the world's oldest zoos and, as far as I can tell, they place a strong emphasis on animal welfare. It also happens to be my boyfriend's favourite place in the city. You can easily spend half a day, if not a full day here. The Zoo is a registered charity – your visit will help maintain and improve the Zoo and contribute to conservation programmes. https://www.dublinzoo.ie/3/Visitor-Info.aspx

Easy to access by Dart commuter train, Howth is a beautiful peninsula north of the city. Check out Howth village, the harbour, the little market opposite the Dart station, the beaches and, if you want some exercise and spectacular views, Howth cliff path loop or parts of it (http://www.irishtrails.ie/trail/Howth---Cliff-Path-loop/107/). On the one hand, Temple Bar is Tourist Central. Many Dubliners avoid it in order to escape the throngs of people and often high prices. On the other hand, it is Dublin's most famous area, and there are actually a few nice places hidden here. If I find myself in Temple Bar and want a quick bite, I like Brick Alley cafe with its dozens of hot chocolates and very cheap, filling special of soup/salad, main (lasagna, Shepherd's pie or big salad) and ice cream for under a tenner. Klaw is a tiny, but high-quality seafood place that does, of all things, an oyster happy hour from 5-6 every day. There are buskers, some artsy shops on Essex St West, and fabulous Irish Film Institute bar/shop/cinema.

Great place to find out more about Ireland's history, e.g. the 1916 Rising. Free admission! The cafe is very nice, too. Oddly enough, this literally little museum is currently number 1 on both The Irish Times' and Tripadvisor's museum ratings, beating out some sturdy competition from much bigger museums and galleries. Entry by guided tour only. The tour guides are entertaining and knowledgeable; the exhibition focuses on Dublin life over the past centuries and the collection was put together by public donation. The tours take an hour and book out fast, so we would strongly urge to book online beforehand: https://www.littlemuseum.ie/
