Our Favorite One Day Driving Loop

You can enjoy the beautiful Puget Sound area by traveling this loop which takes about 4 hours to drive. Plenty of stops for stretching your legs. Point Defiance Park has a fantastic zoo and aquarium. You will cross the very safe and stable Tacoma Narrows Bridge in the free direction -- lookup "Galloping Gertie" if you didn't see the film clip in some science class when you were a kid. Shops and eating establishments in Gig Harbor, Poulsbo, and Winslow might interest you. The ferry from Winslow (on Bainbridge Island) to Seattle runs at least every hour and costs under $20 for your vehicle. Passengers are free in this direction. If you want your trip to include a tunnel and a floating bridge, proceed on I-90 to cross Mercer Island and continue to I-405 before you head south to return home.
