The Ava Gardner Museum is a delightful experience for film buffs or those interested in old Hollywood. The outside of the museum doesn't look like much - but the interior is surprisingly well done! Ava Gardner was born in Smithfield, NC and she's the pride of the town! The prices for the museum are $12 per person. It will take about 1.5-2 hours to look through and read everything. It's one of my favorite places to take visitors.

The Southern Bostonian is a fantastic place to find home decor, vintage finds, antiques, and gifts. It even offers paint classes! This is a fun place for anyone who likes a unique shopping experience. Everyone is friendly and you won't be able to tear yourself away from all the cool stuff this shop has to offer! Look for the "Sparrow and Finch Vintage" booth inside the shop - it's run by your friendly Air BnB host, Melissa! If you've got kids - or you're an animal lover - this is a "don't miss" place! It's small but mighty. There are really interesting animals there that you get to see up close. A few of the animals roam the property and there are other animals (including a camel!) that you can feed. It's really fun.

The Old North State Food Hall features all kinds of various food choices, including a pub, burgers, Mac n Cheese, Ice Cream and more. It's a great place to get a feel of the local flavor of Selma.

Neighborhoods
Selma isn't large and some of the shops are for lease - but there is something timeless and magical about a town with a Main Street that looks like it hasn't changed in 80 years. Selma is a hub for the railroads - you can catch a train to Durham, Chapel Hill, Charlotte and more!

Two lane highways are the norm
We are transplants from California, so all the two lanes highways were a big change for us. Also, the speed limit will change from time to time on the same highway, depending upon how many houses are in the area. So it's good to pay attention to the signs.

Get ready to chat...with just about everyone
People are typically super friendly here. You will often want to chat a while in a grocery store line, at the drive thru, or just walking around. It's a sweet custom around these parts - so plan an extra few minutes for conversations with strangers wherever you go.

Bring comfortable layers
The weather changes pretty quickly in North Carolina. Plan to bring a few varieties of clothings - especially in Spring and Fall when the seasons are mixing it up. Also, it rains unexpectedly from time to time. We've found that in many of the smaller cities the dress is very casual. So, unless you're heading into Raleigh or Durham for a dressy affair - you'll be fine in jeans and comfy shoes.

Ya'll and Sweet Tea
If you do not want sweet tea -- you must say UNSWEET at least twice to whomever is taking your order. If you just order "iced tea" you're going to get Sweet Tea. Also, everyone says ya'll. If you're not used to using that phrase, ya'll will be by the time you leave. It's awesome, ya'll!
