Some of the best Chinese food I have ever eaten at a reasonable price. Hand pulled noodles and soup dumplings more addictive than most drugs!!

Breka is a little gem of a cafe. Open 24 hours, there always seem to be people hanging around here. Most importantly they offer free wifi. The food and drinks are delicious and the baking is not bad but be warned: the baked good LOOK much better than they taste.

Vancouver has some of the best sushi in the world. This is not the best the city has to offer but it is the most budget friendly! What you get is fantastic for the prices. Small eat-in area or take-out.

Located in a stunning spot right on the waterfront Cardero's boasts incredible views of the North Shore and it's mountains. The food and drinks are good but not the cheapest food you will find in the city.

My local Pho house. Pho is kind of a big deal in Vancouver. This place is very well priced (like most pho places) and serves generous portions. They will also make food for you to pick up if you just need some hot soup and a relaxing day in.

Several locations within a very small area downtown. Try any of the savoury crepes-they are beyond delicious. Careful, they are so hot but yummy that you run a high risk of burning your tastebuds right off and not being able to enjoy all the other great food this city has to offer!

Drinks & Nightlife

There are a variety of restaurants, pubs, bars and nightclubs in this area. Best of all, most are unique and NOT run by giant corporations/chains.

Looking for a busy place with budget eats? Look no further! All food items are priced at $4.95. It is decent quality pub food although the portions do reflect the price. If you're lucky you may even score a spot on their patio-perfect for people watching! If you have a sweet tooth try the mini donuts (the dipping sauce is to die for!)

Parks & Nature

Lost Lagoon in Stanley Park is a short, easy walk minutes from my place. I love it here because you are GUARANTEED to see "wildlife" (the animals here are so used to humans that they will let you get oddly close to them. There are TONS of ducks, Canadian Geese, Blue Herons, other birds, raccoons, and (at sunset) bats catching bugs. The lagoon also boasts resident swans, turtles, beavers, and fish if you keep your eyes peeled!

A huge area of nature right in the middle of the city. Stick to the paved paths and Lost Lagoon area after sunset (for safety reasons) but during the day lose yourself!

One of Vancouver's best known and busiest beaches. There is a floating dock with a slide in the water and a kayak and Stand Up Paddleboard rental place right on the beach if you want to get nautical. Also surrounded by restaurants and other food options.

Slightly more remote than English Bay Beach and possibly even more beautiful. A playground for kids, a swimming pool if you don't want to get in the ocean and a concession stand right there (overpriced and low quality). Every Tuesday night over July and August Fresh Air Cinema plays a movie at sunset in the field there-its free, just bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit on.

My personal favourite beach in the area because it is more liberal due to its remote location. On Tuesday nights over summer there is a really neat drum circle there.

A wonderful (and FREE) alternative to the Capillano Suspension Bridge-which is a total tourist trap & waste of money. Lynn Canyon has nice, easy trails in a beautiful, natural setting. The suspension bridge there is free and, if you are lucky, you may even see crazy youth going down the natural waterslide/waterfall in the rocks to the left of the bridge. If you continue down the trail along the river you will come across a nice swimming hole with a few cliffs for cliff-jumping. The water is brutally cold but refreshing on a really hot day. It can get quite busy, especially on weekends.

Grouse Mountain is an amazing (although very busy) tourist spot in both Summer and Winter. The standard tourist way of experiencing the mountain is to take the gondola up but that will cost about $60(?)/person, plus all of the parking on the property is pay parking. Consider taking public transit to the base of the mountain or catching the free tourist bus from Canada Place. During the summer it is easy to experience the mountain for about $10/person-if you are capable of a short but strenuous hike up. The Grouse Grind, aka: Nature's Stairmaster, is one of the area's best known hikes. You can't call yourself a local or a fitness enthusiast without knowing your personal "grind time". If you are in (quite) good shape you MAY be able to do the 2.9km grind in an hour or less. Once you reach the top there are incredible views of the city, especially on clear days. The resort has also adopted several animals that you can experience up close at no charge, including 2 grizzly bears and several species of predator birds. There is also a frisbee golf course up there. Hiking down the mountain is not recommended (or allowed on the Grind) but to take the gondola down it only costs $10! If you have funds to burn there are also tons of fun activities that you need to pay for including ziplines and tandem paragliding.
