This is not a commercial coffee tour, it is an educational experience to create awareness in the only organic specialty coffee plantation in the Monteverde area, located in the Ecological Sanctuary, a 48 hectares family project focused on conservation, sustainability, agroecology, education and culture. In a guided workshop by an expert where you will learn from the basics of ancestral agriculture, how we create our own organic fertilizers, then you will know the coffee gardens planted in the forest that surrounds the Ecological Sanctuary, the drying area, and the process that involves the specialty coffee (history, plantations, growth, development, varieties and the science of flavor to prepare a good coffee). After leaving the forest, we will enjoy a guided coffee tasting, sharpening the senses to recognize defects, attributes, aromas and flavors in different qualities of coffee. Finally, we will create an interactive demonstration of the science of flavor and all the variables that an alchemist applies in the preparation of a coffee using different infusion methods. This workshop is an experience that will expand your knowledge of the world of coffee and help you become a home barista and an informed consumer. We also invite you to explore more of our property by hiking our trails, and connecting with nature.

Welcome to my home! First I will explain you how the Costa Rican diet has impacted the longevity and health of locals. Then you will learn why I chose the specific ingredients for the 6 traditional dishes that we will cook: - Empanadas - Arroz con Pollo (perfumed rice with chicken) - Gallo Pinto (traditional rice and beans) - Tortillas con Queso (handmade tortillas with local cheese) - Picadillo de Papa (potatoes in chunks with ground beef) - Fried Yuca I will demonstrate, oversee and guide the class so that you are the one who is cooking. My goal is that you can replicate the recipes when you return back home. One of the highlights that guests love the most is that you will keep plenty of yummy leftovers, so your experience remains for the following day. I recommend you booking days before departing CR. These recipes have been transmitted generation after generation. I learned them from my mother and they will be handed to you. I will explain to you on what occasions we normally cook them, what are the secrets for the best taste and stories behind these dishes. Making tortillas and empanadas are perfect activities for children, they love playing with corn dough, I do that with my little grandson Samuel when he visits me. My family and I will make sure you understand coffee farming and process from our 80 years experience of cultivating coffee on our farm. Coffee unites us, and we'll help you understand the market so you can choose better, and why organic farming is so different from what you may think. You'll learn about the realities of farming from our family who aren't using chemicals to produce an excellent cup of coffee. We'll spend almost one hour talking about the process, and help you understand coffee and farming with an open mind. We'll see the plants, the roasting, and the brewing. You'll discover how to make a better cup of coffee, how to get what you want from a java cup, and learn about other products made with the coffee fruit. Our day starts by meeting at our office located 20 min away from Liberia downtown through the small villages of Colorado and Curubande. We count with two parking lots at our location in Curubande where you can leave your car safe while we do the hike. From Curubande we will take a 4WD for 1 km that will take us to the entrance of the waterfall trail and here is where the hike begins. The waterfall is well hidden away on the outskirts of Rincon de la Vieja Volcano . The trail is 1.3 Miles (2 Kilometers) singletrack so together it is 4 km. There are some climbing to do in elevation and some caves to go across. Later to reach the waterfall we have to swim 25 meters through a beautiful turquoise river canyon. This is a local experience that takes place where the Blanco and the Colorado rivers cross through, forming canyons and beautiful scenery which is why the water in their pools have that special turquoise tint.

(solicitar transporte) Primero nos dirigimos a la majestuosa Catarata de La Fortuna, (520 escalones) que tiene 70 metros de altura; donde si el clima lo permite, nos bañaremos en sus aguas cristalinas. (si llueve mucho no será posible) Estaremos alrededor de una hora y media en este lugar; luego tomaremos el minibús para dirigirnos al siguiente punto y uno de los más espectaculares, la caminata en el bosque tropical hasta la base del Volcán Arenal, donde visitaremos los coladas de lava de los años 1525, 1968 y 2010; Además mientras disfrutamos de este hermoso Parque Ecológico aprenderemos sobre los árboles y animales que habitan este lugar. (Aproximadamente dos horas hasta la base del volcán y una hora hasta la laguna verde). Una vez realizado esto, tendremos un almuerzo tradicional estilo picnic. Para finalizar retornamos al bus para dirigirnos al río natural de aguas termales (Rio Tabacón), donde disfrutaremos de un lugar majestuoso, también les colocaremos una mascarilla de barro volcánico. ( No hay vestidores así que lleven traje de baño puesto) Para después de un gran día de aventura y experiencia, regrese a La Fortuna alrededor de las 4 pm.

Then we’ll take a trail up the mountain that will take us to a famous viewpoint with a lovely view of the city of Jaco and the Gulf of Nicoya. You will be surrounded by lush flora and fauna where you can find monkeys, iguanas and a variety of birds. Our trip continues down the road until we reach the beach of jaco where we we’ll get to enjoy the beautiful sunset as we ride. You will learn all the basics and fundamentals of surfing such as safety, popping up, and riding a wave Every time you feel more comfortable and confident we will teach you more techniques, paddling over, through and under the wave, sitting on and turning your surf board, difference between white water waves and open face waves.
