This is the location for the beach, wild life loop, and light house! If you rent a bike, you will be able to ride in for free and explore every inch of Assateague! Fees are $10/ per day, $20/ for 3 days or $45/ per year

For a small fee (15ish per car), you may enter Assateague Island. About halfway to the beach, there is a pull-off spot that looks out across the marsh. There are always ponies, at least in the distance. If you're lucky they will be right up along the road. Sometimes they hang out right at the ocean with the other beach lovers.

Our favorite trail is the bivalve trail off of the woodland trail (~2 miles round trip). The wildlife loop is open to cars after 3pm. The Bike Depot is just before the entrance and rents bikes, helmets, even kids seats and trailers for a reasonable price. Entrance to the refuge is free via bike or foot.

Some of the best trails and wildlife splendor - as a Refuge this area allows one to experience the natural beauty of the Eastern Shore!

Do you know about Chincoteague? The national park there is on the sea, not bay, so you get waves, and it's beautiful! They are famous for the wild ponies. There are many boat tour companies that take you around the island and give you the history. We have taken both Daisey's Island Cruises and Captain Dan's both were lovely. We brought lunch and a beverage on Daisey's. A small but wonderful brewery is called Black Narrows Brewing (a seafood take out right next door that you can bring the food over to have with your beer.) Island creamery- ice cream is legendary. Our friends rave about a Bill's Prime steak house, we have not eaten there. It's a little over an hour to get there. On the way you pass Wallops Island where Nasa launches rockets. Oh, one more thing, if you go to the beach there it is less crowded if you rive all the way down toward the end of the parking lot. Make a great day!
