Papagayo beaches are the perfect escape from noisy tourist areas. Papagayo beach area inside the Natural Monument of Los Ajaches includes 6 beaches: - Playa Papagayo: the most famous, scenographic and busiest one. The beach is very sheltered from winds. There is a lovely beach cafe perched up on the rock with amazing views and good food. Parking is at the top and then you walk down to the beach. - Playa de la Cera: small secluded beach in a very sheltered spot - Playa del Pozo: long beach defenitely the most quieter. 10 min walk from the Papagayo parking area - Playa Mujeres: one of the largest beaches with fantastic sand and clear sea water. Parking area "Mujeres" at the level of the beach. - Playa Caleta del Congrio: whilst all the other beaches face South West this beach looks to the South East - Playa Puerto Muelas: the faces the same way as the previous beach and often has very few people These silky beaches are famous in Spain and they are often ranked as some of the best beaches in the whole country. The Papagayo beaches are are intimate and surrounded by calm, turquoise waters and sheltered by cliffs. From these beaches you can also clearly see across the water to Fuerteventura´s sandy dunes on the horizon. The island´s tourism has not ruined the sense of unspoilt paradise here and a lot is owed to its protection status as a natural park. To get to the beaches you drive along a track off a roundabout just outside Playa Blanca. The beaches are in a national park and a small entrance fee needs to be paid.The road is rocky and rough and it will take about 15 minutes to get to the first beach from Playa Blanca. You can get there by car, but be aware that it´s rare that the insurance of your hire car will cover accidents that take place on these remote roads. We recommend you go slowly and you will see that you will have no problems. :-)

Papagayo is one of he most well known of all the beaches in Playa Blanca. In reality, it's actually a collection of small beaches that are all separated by high cliffs, forming a number of lovely sheltered bays. The area has been well protected and is now also a national park which can be accessed via a dirt road (there is a small charge to use this route) or by the coastal pathway which starts at the eastern end of the resort. You can also reach Papagayo via a Water Taxi from the harbour in Playa Blanca, if you're feeling fancy!

What is it? A beach beauty. In fact seven. A series of pale yellow stretches on a headland in the far south, separated by lava rock. They’re sheltered, with no scary undertows or currents. Why go? While other beaches on the island are interesting in their way – Playa del Charco de los Clicos for its black sand, red cliffs and a green lagoon, Playa Chica for its thriving seabeds – this is the go-to spot for soft sand and safe, easy swimming.
